Do the DEUS 3100 and DEUS 3300 have built-in redundancy? Yes, the DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 have four built-in braking systems for quadruple redundancy and extra safety. First is a fixed path, hands-free figure 8. Second is the disk brake under the control knob. As the knob is turned toward the stop position, the two plates of the brake are pressed together, friction is increased, and descent speed is slowed. Third is the integral centrifugal brake that limits descent speed to about 3 meters per second. Fourth is a manual tailing brake with the free end of the rope. Controlling the free end of the rope with a gloved hand and pulling it over the side of the DEUS 3100 creates friction that slows descent. Quadruple redundancy means safety you can trust.

Can the DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 be used for training?
Yes, the devices are built tough and durable for repetitive use. Our economical Training rope for use with the DEUS 3100 makes repetitive training affordable and has the same handling characteristics as our super-strong FireBrite rope. The better your training the better your chances of surviving and saving others in an emergency.

Will the DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 work when they get wet?
Yes, the DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 have been thoroughly tested in wet, hot and dirty conditions. When your life is on the line, you can trust the DEUS Rescue. However, like any piece of emergency equipment, our vertical rescue systems should be cleaned and dried after use in wet, dirty conditions. Rope that has been subjected to high temperatures or abuse should be retired and cut into one-foot lengths so it cannot be reused. And, our devices should be stored in clean, dry places. The carry bag included with every vertical rescue system protects the equipment.

How many people can be rescued using the DEUS 3100?
The number of people who can be rescued using the DEUS 3100 is limited only by time and the availability of harnesses. The DEUS 3100 is unique because rope runs through it in both directions, and the internal brake engages in both directions. When one person reaches the bottom and is disconnected, attach the next person to the other end of the rope running through the DEUS 3100. Using this method, a room full of people can be rescued using a single descent device. Another advantage: because the DEUS 3100 operates hands-free, rescue personnel can prepare the next person to be rescued while the previous person is descending.

How can the DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 be both “hands-free” and “manual?”
The DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 are equipped with an adjustable disk brake and a centrifugal brake. The disk brake can be set to completely stop by turning the control knob to the stop position on the dial. Turning the disk brake's control knob toward the full open position increases descent speed to the limit allowed by the centrifugal brake, which is about 3 meters per second. Descent is "hands-free" because once the control knob is set to any speed between "engaged" and "disengaged," it does not have to be held. Descent is "manual" because the control knob and descent speed are completely adjustable during descent. Finally, even with the control knob turned all the way to the full open position, descent speed can still be manually controlled between zero and about 3 meters per second by holding and pulling the free end of the rope over the manual brake.

Can DEUS descent devices be manually operated with heavy gloves?
Absolutely. DEUS descent devices have been thoroughly tested through development by firefighters wearing heavy gloves.

Where are DEUS products manufactured?
Our primary concern was to make the DEUS 3100 and the DEUS 3300 products you can trust when lives are on the line. That means the best designs, the best engineering, the best materials and the best manufacturing, regardless of location. DEUS descent devices are German and U.S. designed, and manufactured in Germany. Our partner in Germany is SUCO. SUCO has been designing and manufacturing precision devices since 1945. SUCO is known worldwide for its precision-machined, miniature centrifugal brakes. Ropes are designed and manufactured by Sterling Rope in the United States. Our emergency harnesses are made by us in the United States. Our carry-bags are designed and manufactured by EVAC Systems in the United States.

Does DEUS Rescue offer product training?
There are DEUS Certified Trainers in the United States. These trainers are familiar with all DEUS products, and they are highly qualified and certified rescue personnel. Contact DEUS Rescue at training@DEUSrescue.com to discuss your training needs or contact a DEUS Certified Trainer directly.

Are DEUS descent devices certified to industry standards?
